I just purchased a computer with WindowsME preinstalled and I am attempting to access my office server through DUN. I am able to connect and ping the server but unable to "browse the network". I noticed that NetBEUI was not an installed protocol. When I went to add it, there was no NetBeui protocol available under Microsoft. The only Microsoft protocols available are ATM Call Manager and ATM Emulated LAN Client (also, Microsoft is the only manufacturer listed).

Does anyone know how I can install the additional protocols, specifically NetBEUI?

The disk that came with the computer has images on it but I am not sure if I can access WindowsME install files. Sony Tech Support has been no help whatsoever.

Oh!!!! thats another flaw I forgot about WinME, WinME will not allow any Non-Microsoft networking componets. You will not be able to use NetBEUI across the phone lines or the Internet in any case. The link between you and your server will have to happen via TCP/IP, which is active and working on your system now, else you could not ping the server. Get with your network administrator at work and have him/her help you set up the connection. They know how to do it and what is required.

Did you ever find a way to add NETBEUI for Windows ME? I am experiencing the same problem, and have not found a solution. Thanks.

Hmm, that's very strange... I have just setup ME and NetBEUI is a clearly listed (and installed) protocol under Microsoft in my installation.

Yes! The solution I found was to return the computer. The sales person did not believe me when I told him my problem so we looked at the floor model and sure enough, NetBEUI was installed. So he started my computer and no NetBUEI. He had not choice but to exchange the computer.
