Windows XP

I tried putting windows xp on my machine, but it would not recognize my usb ports. Since this is my internet connection(dsl), I was stuck and ended up going back to Win Me.Computer is an HP with a 400 Celeron.Do I need to download some drivers or something first? Or is this machine too old for XP?

The machine should be capbable of running XP as long as it meets the minimum system requirements. Run the upgrade advisor for compatability isssues:
