I have a similar problem on two seperate XP machines please help.

One is a laptop and the other a desktop. Both connect to a wireless network. In both case the wireless signal meter shows either a good or excellent connection and close to 100 percent signal quality. However in both cases the computers will neither ping nor connect to any internet services or the local lan.

Whats the same and whats different.

On the laptop I can usssually connect for a time then the conection drops and will not reestablish. No rhyme or reason as to when it drops and when it works. This happens on three seperate wireless networks in various locations. Also when it does work it works even when the signal strength is poor, so I do not think it is an issue with signal quality. The laptop uses a PCMCIA Dlink card and runs XP Pro. I thought it was something in the Laptop until...

the desktop has not connected to the network ever. IT conects just fine via dial up but no go on the wireless. It has either good or excellent connectivity and link quality. It uses a PCI wireless Netgear card.

I have ruled out the ussual by using static IP addresses and known good dns servers. Computers willl not ping either alpha or by IP address.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
