I have a windows XP HOME EDITION at home with 128 MB AND 40 GB DISK SPACE.
My problem is that it takes more time to boot up and and i could see a few items in the tray - is that taking up the speed. Or is their anything i can do it to speed up.
It takes real time to open files.

More memory. I would not even consider running XP with less that 256mg and would reccoment 512.

Also when was the last time you defragged your harddrive?

yes you need more memory for XP. if you want to get rid of the items at startup though go to the run box and type msconfig. In the startup section you should be able to disable the programs you dont want

512m of memory will make your system seem incredible compared to the way it is now.
I would not even want to run with 128, 256 is like the minimum in my opinion and thats not enough.
