I have a Linksys wireless A+G network, with 2 PCs on it working fine. I placed an adapter in a third machine that used to have an AOL DSL connection. I unchecked the old DSL protocols and deleted the old connections from "network connections" and added a new LAN connection. The hardware connects to the network fine but it doesn't connect to the Internet. If I right-click the connection icon in the system tray and click REPAIR, it says that "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection." But I have checked TCP/IP in the connection definition as usual. (Of course I've checked "never dial a connection" as well.) It seems like something left over from the old DSL setup may be blocking the TCP/IP binding for the new wireless connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jonathan

But, first, thoroughly remove the AOL leftovers:

1: Click the Start button and select Control Panel
2: In the Control Panel window double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
3: In the list of programs, look for anything that includes "America Online" or "AOL"
4: For each AOL-related item, select the item by clicking it and then click Remove or Change/Remove
5: Follow the instructions on your screen to remove the AOL program
6: Restart your computer.
7: Right click My Network Places
8: Click Properties
9: Right click Local Area Connection
10: Click Properties
11: Look for "AOL Adapter" and anything including "AOL" or "America Online"
12: Select this AOL item(s) (by clicking it), then click Uninstall.
13: Restart your computer again.

Then, use Device Manager, View, Show all hidden devices, and uninstall all AOL phantom adapters that may be left.

Reboot, and then use the tool above.

Funny you should mention uninstalling all the AOL stuff. I went to the protocol list (of which TCP/IP is one) and found a DSL entry. First I unchecked it, then tried to uninstall it from that window and the uninstall CRASHED. That's when I knew there'd be trouble ahead.

And I can't quite uninstall everything having to do with AOL because the user of this machine has an AOL account (no longer DSL though) which must remain.

It's possible that the DSL protocol (that I can't seem to uninstall) is the problem, but I don't know how to get rid of it now since uninstall doesn't work.

A few other points...

In general, TCP/IP does work because the dial-up connection works fine.

Also, I meant to say "remove" function, not uninstall for the DSL entry in the connections properties. It's the remove function that crashed.
