Windows XP stops booting process after POST

When turning on the PC it boots into the IBM screen where it gives you the options for setup and boot sequence. After that the screen goes blank with the cursor on the top left flickering and stays there. Ive tried windows repair from the XP cd and its the same. I also tried changing the boot sequence and doing CHDSK /r and nothing. Any tips on this??

try fixboot.exe....... you obviously can see the hd did you change to boot from the cd with the repair/recovery disk?......just reviewing all the steps.

Did the PC just start doing this or was something installed and rebooted? Make sure no thumb drives are in USB, too.
