I was looking at my Windows XP style start menu, and I noticed that in the "Connect To" icon, it only expands to show my wireless network connection and then a link to "show all connections". I also have a LAN connection besides my wireless connection, and I was wondering how I can make a shortcut and get it to show up in that menu in the start menu. Thanks!

Having just made the move to XP Pro I am having many issues, but how are you connecting to your LAN? USB or Ethernet. XP should show your network card in the connections screen. If not you may have to go to the install new hardware section and then go on from therre. If you are using a USB connected router then maybe someone else can help.

ddub011,

right-click the Start button, Properties, Customize, Advanced. Scroll the list and you will have several options as to what displays from the Network tab in the Start Menu.

bcastner,

thanks for the tip, but I looked through that already, and it doesn't give me the option that i'm looking for. I guess in one way you could say I'm trying to add a shortcut to that menu but it won't let me. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

ddub, a workaround is to set Control Panel to function as a menu; then when you click Control Panel, you'll get a sub-menu for Network Connections, which has as IT'S submenu ALL the entries from your networking.

I think this is as close as you're going to get, without a reg hack. The "Connect to" bit of the Start menu isn't designed for what you're trying to do.

jpm121,

Thanks for the tip... sounds like a good alternative...
yeah, i'm not too sure how to hack in the registry...
i would think there is a way to do it though... because the "connect to" bit of the start menu already has a shortcut to wireless network connection there, I can't see why it wouldn't allow for the lan line to be there too...

thanks for the tip again.
