We have the following Hardware/Software:
-- New Toshiba Satellite 1805-S274 laptop
-- Targus Port Replicator
(removed from this scenario - Cradle USB connects
directly to laptop)
-- Jornada 540 pocket PC
-- Windows XP
-- Office XP
-- Active Sync 3.5
What we did:
1) Following HP's instructions, we uninstalled Active Sync
2) rebooted
3) reinstalled - connected and then computer hangs during synchronization of Outlook contacts - never got past this.
4) undesirable side effect -- can't send mail with attachments and sometimes send mail at all from Outlook after this.
--- I removed Active Sync, rebooted and Outlook will send and receive mail (with or without attachments fine)
--- Adding Active Sync causes Outlook to lock up and crash.
--- I reinstalled Office XP -- but when I try to install Service Pack I for Office XP I get a 1328 error. (but Office XP was NOT installed in a Corporate environment -- rather off a CD as a single user on the laptop)
It appears that this is a problem between Outlook in the Office XP version and Active Sync 3.5 running under Windows XP -- I can't find any help for this on the Microsoft web page.
I do not believe we have HP's Windows CE patch on the Jornada but I understand that can cause a problem with Active Sync.
I am stuck. We need to get this working. From what I've done, it would appear to be a problem between Windows XP, Outlook XP and Active Sync. Does anyone know of any workarounds?
Is this a unique problem? or has anyone seen this issue before?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
