Windows XP NOT STARTING 1

Chain of events:
1) Internet wasnt working so I rebooted the computer
2) On rebooting the computer - (just before it normally starts windows) It just gave me a blank screen (dark bluish colour)
3) I tried restoring the computer to previous working dates
and just as it was about to start it gave me the blank screen again
4) I tried re-installing Windows XP and just as it was about to start, instead of giving me a blank screen it gives me the screen where it says Windows XP and it has a bar moving across underneath and it just freezes in that position with the bar continuosly moving
5) At this point, I rebooted & tried putting the computer
in SAFE MODE - but now it says that it doesnt even allow me to go in SAFE MODE.
6) AM I DOOMED?

Sounds lika a candidate for booting from the XP disk and running a repair. Had you updated anything (Windows....drivers...) recently?

If my SAFE MODE is not working - how can I run a repair from the XP CD?

Set your Bios to boot from the CD, insert XP disk.

If that fails, strip the PC to the minimum; no sound, network...only one stick of RAM etc. Bios set to default and try again.
