On boot sys. bring me to the menu where you can slect safe mode or safe mode with command prompt and so on. It doesnt matter which I select the sys. keep rebooting. When I start the computer with an XP cd and run the recovery software, it brings me to the command prompt. It doent matter what command i type the sys. displays ""an error occurred during directory enumeration". Does anyone know why or at least how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Mikash/softmchine;

Can either of you offer help? I am facing the exact situation you describe. Have loads of data not backed up which I am trying feverishly to retrieve.

Can anyone provide a useful suggestion?

I have the same problem, but it is with a Win 2000 machine. Running chkdsk /r didn't do anything, but I ran fixboot and fixmbr and then ran chkdsk /r and chkdsk was able to run.
