A bit of information here but not too much on passwords or Dial up.

Make sure that the remote procedure call (RPC) services are started on the computer. You can do this by opening Control Panel, Administrative Tools and double- clicking Services, and checking to make sure the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator services are running and set to start automatically.

hi thanks for the links and advise i have checked the rpc service and they started ....still same shyte
can make a dial up connection ...with the same error

ANY HELP !!!!!

You can have a look at these (probably a bit of a long shot) but you never know until you try.

264672 - OLEXP: Your Outlook Express Password Is Not Retained in Windows 2000 or XP

OL2000: (IMO) Your Password Is Not Retained in Windows 2000 or Windows XP

Also you can type control userpasswords2 in the Start Run box and press Enter. In the resulting window select Advanced/ Manage Passwords.

You could also look in your Event Viewer and see if there are any other errors being flagged.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode with Networking. (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

nothing seems to work ... and i dont want to reinstall over .......

very important apps installed and dont want to loose the settings ....

error 1726: rpc failed ...WTF is this ?

The remote procedure call service failed. This service is the most important service of all, there are over 30 other services which depend on it to work correctly. It might be an idea to set all your services back to their default settings and see how it goes.

Download the file DefaultAllPro.zip from -

This file can be merged into the Registry and set everything back to the default Services.

Having set the Services back to their default you can try and set the Dial-up Registry settings back to their default too.

They repair XP's Internet connections.

Finally don't ignore the repair option of XP as per -

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

Read the article, you should only have to replace your Windows Updates, your programs and their settings should not be touched. Of course there can never be a cast iron guarantee of this, but it is the most often used fix of problems and you don't see many people complaining about it.
