I have three XP computers linked though a Belkin Wireless router, all using XP. Recovering from a serious bout of the new VX2 spyware variant I am unable to access the internet or ping any external computer. I can ping my router/modem and each computer on the network but cannot access the internet.

My IP address seems to have been 'hi-jacked' looking at the connection properties for my IP that usually is obtained automatically from the router with 192.168.2.2, however this has changed to no understanding of my own, it seems to be a pre-configured non-random IP, but the automatic box is checked so this should be issued by the router. I have checked the DHCP listing for the router and as far as it is concerned 192.168.2.2 is the issued address. All other computers that are XP have no problems with network/internet issues.

When I try to access sites through IE6 I get the DNS error message, I have tried unistalling/installing TCP/IP and cannot access any sites. I have alsop tried ipconfig /release and renew.

I am running Windows XP Sp1 with IE6,

Any ideas without a re-format?

print us out the contents of ipconfig /all ...

After much searching and tinkering I have managed to locate someoneon the net who had described almost all simialr symptoms, caused by a varietry of things ranging from spyware to corrupted reg entries etc, in most cases it is a messed up host file and may be fixed by using WinsockXPFix.exe
obtainable at

many thanks everyone for such swift responses, I actually found my response elsewhere before I checked my mail otherwise I would have followed exactly.

Death to => ****VX2 malware new variant*****

Nasty stuff, had removed via the posted link already which helped but seemed to mess me up,

Thanks!
