Well my i finally got my win98 to install and then upgraded to xp pro. It booted up twice and then gave me the erorr erorr loading pci.sys so i moved my cards over one spot now it boots up to xp in safe mode but if i try to boot up in normall mode it boots up to the black screen that says windows is loading and then shows for lines of colored dots on the top right hand side of the screen. Then it goes into the screen where there is a blinking white line in the top left hand side of the screen clicks insesantly and then stops if you click or hit a key it restarts. How can i fix this.

Well I think youre right if I can find a new install disk then ill upgrade but for now il stick with 98 Thanks anyway.

It is easy to do a clean install with an upgrade CD. The only difference between an upgrade version and full version CD, is that during install the upgrade version will ask to inspect your 98 CD, just to make sure you qualify for the upgrade. The only other difference is the price between upgrade and full version.

Other options open to you are dual booting.

Yep! whilst clean installing it will ask you to put your 98 disk in the drive just to make sure you qualify for the XP upgrade.
But definately CLEAN INSTALL! and use NTFS file system upgrading over the top is never a good idea as you have found. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Ya sure my friend gave my a bootable xp setup disk so ill try that.
