Does anyone know how to setup Windows XP and specifically the dialup settings. I keep getting an error saying my modem is not connected correctly. I can get it working fine on Windows 98.

Just checking
Was the modem installed with the proper driver files?

Thanks for replying.
I used the driver that came with NRU 11 (nvmppp2.inf) which is the same in every version Nortel released to this point. I seem to be having trouble with Dialup networking in WinXP. I didn't get much help from my "data" guru.
When I try to connect it times out with an error telling me to check if the modem is connected. It's a virtual modem that doesn't have any connections except for the serial cable which does work with a WIN98 laptop.

Make sure that you can use the modem to dial out via HyperTerminal. Also, can you run a query on the modem via the Control Panel? Until those work, NRU won't. Make sure that you match the COM port setting in NRU that shows up in the query.

I run NRU 11 on XP Pro without any problems. I even had to use a USB to RS-232 adapter to connect my USR external modem and it still works fine (on COM 3). If only new PCs still had serial ports!

Oops! Never mind. I'm a little under the weather and missed the "NAM Serial connection" part. Just ignore my post above please.

Instead, try to test the serial port in HyperTerminal with a loopback. That way you will know if you have the correct serial port settings.

Sorry, maybe I was not specific enough. This connection is for Norstar Voice Mail Manager 4.0. It uses a serial connection to the NAM and my serial port works fine with a RAD and NRU, just not with Voice mail Manager. I cannot get it to work with Windows XP Pro, however, I can get it to work with Windows 98. I am having trouble setting up dialup networking in WIN XP(very different from dialup networking in WIN98).

Thanks

Thanks Aragon,
For anyone else interested in this post, I double checked with Nortel directly and the NAM is obselete and will not be supported in Windows XP.
