Here is my dilema...
I have two older emachines. One is a 466is and the other is a 533. Both have been upgraded to XP. Worked perfect. Being never satisfied, I decided to start using the 533 as my primary computer. I had already installed a second HDD in the 466is with no problems. I upgraded that computer first, XP showed all HDD, etc. No problems. Being that the 533 is faster, I decided to use that one and install the already working 40G HDD because I have so much info already on it.
I installed the HDD and now my CD-ROM is not recognized and the second HDD is not showing either.
As I said the 2nd HDD already has Windows XP on it. I receive no error messages and no lock ups or freezes.
Could someone please give me some info as to what the problem may be?
Maybe walking me through BIOS or such?

How/where did you install second hard drive? (as slave to first, as master on secondary IDE, slave to CD rom?)

Are jumper settings correct?

I installed the 2nd HDD as slave to first. I actually found the correction tobe 2 jumpers on the drive. Now my 2nd dilema has appeared. My CD-ROM is now not recognized. I have tried every configuration of jumpers. It is on its own IDE cable.....

You mean its not recognised by the bios?

What if you just boot with CD ROM attached - no hard drives. Does bios see it then?

Is the second IDE master set to auto detect?

It is recognized by BIOS
It is set to Auto-detect
I have power.

So it is ok in bios, but not in XP? (does it appear in device manager in XP, or is it just not there at all)
