Windows XP access to share c$

How can I access the default administrative share C$ on a Windows XP client from another PC on the same domain (and IP subnet) running Windows 2000 Professional. I can access the administrative shares of Windows 2000 and NT machines using a local administration username and password, but it will not work on Windows XP machines. The windows XP firewall is disabled.

Afaik, it should work for XP too. What actually happens when you try to access the share?

We get the username and password box, enter the admin name and password and it just kicks in back the the password blank.

Is there more than one local Admin user on XP machine? Does the local Administrators group include Domain Admins? (ie, can you try other user name/password combinations)?

PS. If you set up your own hidden share to the drive (eg C1$), can you access that?

Use the local admin username and password of the machine that hosts the share. You might consider adding to the share host a new administrative user and restrict its rights on the local console.

If the host machine is DISNEY, and on DISNEY I add the local Admin user MICKEY, with password MOUSE:

net use h: \\DISNEY\C$ and when prompted I enter MICKEY and the password MOUSE.
