Hi guys, stop me from pulling my hair out, I have a dual MP2200+ system with a SIL 0680 raid card, the system was working then crashed and I had to reinstall.

The problem is this when trying to install Win2k,XP I boot from CD install raid card driver and get to the partition screen, I create a partition (Ive tried 160gig, and 2gig and 4 gig) and NTFS system, it formats and then says cannot install, disk may be damaged, then if I choose FAT32 it will format , copy files and reboot and hang at boot up, the drivers are Western Digital 80gig and I have tried with and without the raid, also the drives have been fully tested and had no errors.

Help me please.

thanks jmatt but i think thats for windows98 not winxp/2000

Opp's forgot about that .
Maybe one of these will help & then use fdisk , reboot & format .

Freeware .
WIPE OUT : as the name implies, this utility will absolutely WIPE your hard drive. For those times when an industrial strength cleaner is needed to remove any pesky files Fdisk may have left behind. A readme file is included in the zip file. WARNING...WIPE OUT will remove ALL data from the Hard Drive.

-------------------------------------------

Delpart.exe From NT 3.51, this utility can delete extended NTFS, Lilo, and just about any other type of partition .
DELPART is a DOS based utility that will remove NTFS partitions from hard drives. FDISK is unable to remove some types of NTFS partitions.
DELPART can wipe clean a hard drive, then you can use FDISK to create partitions normally.

when the system crashed was it due to the raid?
what raid cofig are you running? (0,1, or 5)

I have a sneaky hunch that your raid configuration is corrupt
remove the raid id from the drives in the raid controller bios
then reboot and go back to the raid bios and reset up your raid config.
if you are running raid 0 the make sure you have a good back-up.

You can't use the other posts till you fix the raid config

Cheers for the help, I have deleted the raid stripe 0 and created a new one, i also have installed each drive on the ide channel of the motherboard and repartioned and reformated but still no joy, I have used the Western Digital diagnosis tool and both drives have no errors and i have filled them with 0's to make sure the old data has gone, I have tried delpart aswell and wipeout is only for when you have actual partitions.

The error message in Win2k/XP is setup was unable to format the partition. I can use acronis partition manager and format but then 2K/XP doesnt see it but it will format in DOS ok.

I really need to use NTFS as I am doing a lot of video editing with the system, well hopefully.
