Windows wont boot after service pack 2 installation did not finish

hello guys,

i tried installing service pack 2 on a laptop, but on the process of installing the SP2, it had an error and restarted. i missed the error but for sure it didnt finish installing. now xp wont completely boot up . it reaches the bootup options <like safe mode, normal mode etc> i tried safemode, last known..., >no luck. and when i tried to repair windows it just shows black screen with the mouse pointer.

i would appreciate any ideas and suggestions.
