I have a PC, Windows Vista installed with Novell Client for Vista, and servers have Novell Version 5, could there be any configurations because this PC can't find any tree in the LAN!
Do you have SLP configured properly on your server and on the client? I guess it would more likely be a problem on the client if other clients are connecting.
See if you can search for the server via IP address and then click on it and see if you are prompted to login to the server.
That would only be helpful if Vista's firewall behaves differently by default than XP's in terms of SLP. Do you know that for a fact or is this a guess??
Before posting this issue, i did try turning off firewall, another thing is,if I call server via IP nothing comes up! in XP everything is perfect, could it be novell 5.0 doesn't support Vista?
Or could it be that NetWare 5.0 was released 10 years before Vista was and Novell didn't have the foresight to develop accordingly..
I don't know what the answer is because we don't have any real customers that have migrated to Vista. And we don't use it here either. I would stick with what works.

Not picking on you, but..... Marv - in one sentence you're ribbing people because they're running a 10 year old piece of software (I generally agree) but in the next, you're telling me that even you don't run the current version of the Microsoft operating system.
You (everybody) can't stick with XP forever just like Novell servers can't be on Netware 5.0 forever. KnowWhatIMean?
P.S. I don't like Vista either. It rubs me the wrong way and you have to have some pretty stout hardware for it to run decently.
But back to the O/P's question. If he can ping the server from the Vista PC and the server can ping the Vista PC, I would think that you could login.
Could the O/P try this - use the GroupWise utility GWIP. It allows you to ping an ip address on a specific port to see if it's open.
Maybe Marv could say which port to ping the workstation on from the server to see if the firewall is truly not hindering communication to the client. Like maybe the SLP port.
I know it's kind of backwards - from server to client, but it might answer some questions.
It would be like this from the server console GWIP ipofworkstation portnumber
O/P could also try telnetting to the server to see if it's rejected or it starts to listen.
Well, SLP supposedly uses TCP & UDP Port 427. However, regular NCP (Needed for login) uses TCP Port 524. If you're not getting SLP, that causes you not to be able to find the tree. However, you should be able to login or map via the IP address of the server, and if you fail on that, it usually means port 524 is being blocked.
Also note that a firewall running on Vista could be blocking these ports. AVG firewall blocks NCP and I have not figured out a way to get around it other than disabling AVG firewall. Other firewalls, I've had hit and miss luck.
