hi, i just bought a computer with Windows vista home premium. the laptop has two partitions the C drive and the recovery partition. is there a way to copy the recovery partition or its files so I can start the machine from CD???
What do you mean - do you want to create a recovery CD/DVD that you could boot from? New computers often have this option as part of their start up (ie, prompt you to create just this) - did yours not? Check the documentation to see if it says how to do this - look on manufacturer's site if you can't find anything useful on your machine or its documents.
Is there a recovery option when you boot the machine (often press F10)? That's common when there is a recovery partition. If so, probably can't easily create bootable CD/DVD from the recovery partition.

As wolluf explains during 'initial startup' which often takes as long as 50 minutes, manufacturers often given an option to 'create a recovery' image, now insert a blank media (usually 2 disks)
I did exactly this last month with my new HP/Compaq which was running Vista Business Edition.
Mine failed to write, stalling at 99%
I rang up HP support who then sent me the 'official recovering disks' I believe you might be able to do the same.
F.Y.I manufacturers are discouraged bt Microsoft from including original Vista media and so customers are faced with situations like the one you describe.
The 'make a recovery back up' option usually is a once only operation, so if you missed it or it failed to write I suggest you call support and complain. fingers crossed for success.

my heart it feels a broken beat
Touched soul and hurt lay wounded deep
Brown eyes are lost afar and sleep
