Anyone tried running dBASE IV DOS on Vista ?

Program seems to run OK but only in a small screen
box which can not be enlarged. Any ideas on how
to run full screen ?

dbMark-

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately it does not solve the problem. Any other ideas ?

Microsoft Knowledgebase article 926657 says that some 16-bit DOS-based programs and the Command Prompt will not run in full-screen mode in Windows Vista. The situation is apparently related to differences in Vista's video drivers. The recommended workaround is to obtain the Windows XP version of the video driver for your video adapter.

Bummer! Our Clipper app has experienced the problem. One more time Microsoft has screwed legacy applications.

You should be able to enlarge the window by changing the font. In good old 98 you could drag to corners but in 2000/xp/vista.

Edit the properties of the shortcut and select the font size to suit, you will see a size representation in the screen window.

Hope that helps.

The font size is only one part of the problem. The full-screen situation (that is, lack of it) is the other part. I assume that changing the font aize does not change the size of the "shrunken window." Therefore, are you not left with a scrollable window instead of a desirable full-screen presentation?

Hi,
No, the screen changes size so you see all the screen in one window. It is still in a window but you do see the whole DOS screen (unless the font you choose is too big).

We use a Clipper application like that here.

Try it and see.

Not sure it will work with all the apps, and never touched Vista, but it works with some apps in XP. Change the properties of the shortcut in the same way you change the font, as HotEye explained, and select Full Screen instead of Window in the Options Tab. It will open in full screen. Does it work for you?

I should have added to my last post a reference to a previous post that states that Microsoft's "solution" for the Vista full-screen situation is to install an XP Video Driver. Of course, that negates some Vista features, e.g. Aero.
