when windows boots up (xp), after the bios check, i get a prompt that wants me to pick between windows xp and an older version of windows (98). when i first got my pc i installed 98, then i formatted the drive before i installed 2000. the problem first appeared here and i've tried to tolerate it, but since upgrading to xp - i'm sick of it and want to remedy the situation. the default selection is xp and after 30 seconds it loads, but if i select 98 it'll just go to a c:> prompt. so how can i clear or override this prompt? anybody know?
thanks

TyrantSSV means boot.ini
Remove the entry which reads C:\="Microsoft Windows" or similar
Make sure the default line is something like
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
Boot.ini is usually readonly, hidden, system file, so you need appropriate explorer settings to access it - or from system properies advanced tab, click on settings in Startup and Recovery and then click on Edit box (To edit the startup options file manually).
