While downloading the Automatic Updates...first time...my Personal Firewall
keeps poping up saying that the "update.exe" is "not the same program you
allowed before, but it has the same name as the one you allowed. Do you want
to allow it?"
Well, I'm doing updates, so I respond "YES".
This got me to thinking.
I looked up "update.exe" on a search engine, and that took me to a MS site:
The site says "The Package Installer (Formerly Called Update.exe) for
Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Windows Components".
Now, I'm concerned about spyware "piggybacking" on my updates.
How should I handle this?
Thanks.

Your link does not resolve.

But no matter. The explanation is that update.exe is used for installer packages for those not using Windows Installer Version 3.0 but are using an earlier version.

Let the trafffic through.

No, the issue is when the Hotfix was made, not your installer version.

If you really believe that your are downloading malware on a HTTPS connection to the Windows Update site then I suggest you do a live online chat with their Security Center folks:

I will when they come back online.
Thanks for the link.

Remember it is a Holiday weekend, and most of the MicroFolk will not be there.

.

Well, they went through and I can't find any viruses, so I'll call this fixed.
Thanks to you all.
