Windows 7 will not update with error shown above. Tried everything to repair but noticed that program's have taken ages to install and trying to install a hot fix and it just sits there as if waiting for something. Tried sfc/scan now and reports windows protection error.
It did have avast on it and 2 Trojans which have now been removed and free of it all.
Please help

Why don't you look in the Windows Update HISTORY section and see what has failed to update - everything or just one specific item. Click on VIEW UPDATE HISTORY and share with us what you see.

Are you running Microsoft Security Essentials now?? It could be that that is failing to update due to the malware, but more info is needed.

You may want to consider running secondary and tertiary malware scans to make sure that all malware is gone. Consider, MalwareByte's Anti-Malware, MBAR, ComboFix, TDSSKiller, Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

See if there is anything here to help you.

Malware - 3 times > clear
spybot - clear
AV - 2 trojans removed
various fixes attempted and update shows no history
had to reinstall av which took hours to do

SFC scan also returns a Windows Resource Protection warning and that the repair service could not be started.

System Restore does not work and the system readiness tool just sits there when it states it is installing the update for 2/3 hours without doing anything.

Then you'd better consider Linney's suggestion of a Windows 7 - Repair Install. Your system is pretty hosed up. OR a full reload is always 1000% successful if hardware is functional.

Looks like it!
Im actually trying to repair for a friend.
Strange that apart from the windows update being shot, it works!
Not all of the wu dll's would register either.
Thanks all
