Hi All,

I have about 8 Windows 2000 Servers running Exchange, SQL etc...and about 30 workstations. I just noticed that the Windows time on all servers and workstations is about 4 minutes off. I tried correcting the time on all the servers by running "time" and entered new time from command line. However, it goes back and still off about 4 minutes. I think it is getting this time from a server. I just took over this job a few months ago and I'm not sure and don't know which server or what to do to correct this problem. Can any of you please give me any tips or suggestions?

Thanks,
Henry

Is this an active directory domain? If so they will be getting the time from the PDCe which will be the first DC that was installed into the domain.

You can discover which server holds the PDCe by opening Active Directory Users and Computers, Right click your Domain and select Properties, Operations Masters.

Is there a way for me to find out which DC was the first installed into the domain?

And what is the right way to correct the time on the PDC?

Thanks,
Henry

See above for the first question.

Just set the clock on the PDCe the usuall way and all other domain members will sync with it.

If you have installed the Resource Kit utilities you can run Netdom do discover which server holds the PDC emulator role.

netdom /query fsmo

Make sure that you have configured an authoritative time source ont he server and you should know that in order for time to sync with the atomic clock, you need to have port 123 open on your firewall for the Windows Time Service to work properly.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
