Hi all.

I need a way to backup esential parts of a server.

There is no IT-staff on site, and I check in there ones a week.

They have one Windows 2003 server and 50+ clients

Is there an easy way to make a backup of Active Directory? (backup users, groups, OU, ++ )

Thanks

NTBackup

I agree, use NTBackup to backup the files and system state and take the backup tape offsite with you to provide a degree of disaster protection.

Thanks for the reply,

Would it be posible to save the backup on an external file server?

Define "external". If you mean another server on a local LAN, sure, just point the backup file to a share on that server.

I was thinking of a server that's not on the same LAN.

How exactly would the server your backing up see the server you're trying to backup to?

I was thinking, that was the problem.

Setting up a scrip to send it somewhere via ftp is the idea stuck in my head now, or do you have a better idea? (ftp might turn out to be harder then necessary)

Throw a cheap usb drive onto either the server or a client and use that as your backup destination.
