I am setting up an offline backup server with identical hardware as the primary. I want be able to mirror the disk to removable disk weekly and use it the offline server in case of catastrophic failure. I prefer not to spend the $800 on Symantec LiveState Server and Ghost 9.0 will not install on servers. I do believe an earlier version would install on servers, although you had to reboot to do the mirroring. Does anyone know what version of Ghost I need to do this?

Hi

Ghost Enterprise versions 7 and 8 work fine but only in DOS mode i.e. from a bootable floppy/cd.

The other option is to buy Symantec V2i Server Edition (Livestates older brother) which works perfectly and I have found it going much cheaper on ebay (search for item number 7131357753 on ebay).

If you use this please make sure you apply the v2.03 update (available from symantec) so that it works fine on Server 2003

We have a lot of 2003 Servers using V2i all backing up to external USB Drives and they all work without a glitch.

Hope this helps

Regards

Mark
