This is a new one for me. Wnet to login to the server. CTRL-ALT-DEL, login comes up, login works. Server does the normal logging in, then jumps right to saving your settings and logs me out. All systems are functioning fine. Just can't access the server from the console or a remote session. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like you have a corrupt user profile. Do you have more than one domain admin ID? If you don't then you can install the AdminPak on an XP machine to be able to run AD Users & Computers on a PC to elevate an exisitng ID or to create a new ID.

Log in as a new domain admin to see if that works. If it does then delete the admin profile and log in as admin to recreate the profile.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Sorry for the vague title. Apparently I haven't had enough coffee this AM. Is there a way to change the Subject?

No dice. Sounded right. I just tried to login with a different user to no avail. Same issue persists. Any more ideas!

I'd check the event logs for any indication of what is going on. You should be able to log on to an XP machine and remotely access the logs.

On XP, right click My Computer. Choose Manage.

Right click Computer management and choose Connect to Another Computer. Enter the server name. Review the logs for further information on what is wrong.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Well, when it rains it pours. My client restarted the server, and it started to boot, but went to a black screen. Sounds like something is messed up in the OS files. Guess I will find out when I get there in a couple of hours. Thanks.

Realizing that this is more than a week later, I'll add that you should yank the serial cable from the UPS to the server and see if that helps. I had that happen recently on a brand new server where the UPS setting was incorrect. Unplugging the serial cable let me log in an correct the setting.
