Windows Registry Restore Question

Hi,

When I specify "SYSTEM STATE:" as the saveset, one of the things NetWorker backs up is the Registry. When I browse using the CLI, this is what I see:

recover> ls -ltr
total 0
d 0 Registry
d 0 Performance Counters
d 0 Internet Information Services
d 0 COM+ Registration Database
d 0 ASR System Files

I can cd into "Registry" but there's nothing there. If I want to restore a certain registry key, how would I do so?

I'm running NetWorker 7.2.2 on RHEL4 Update 6. The client is Windows 2003 Server. Any comment and suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

SYSTEM save sets are considered to be "database alike" - it does not make sense to recover a specific object to achieve consistency.

To prevent this and to assist the user, NW does not even save the file index information (if available at all). The best example is the bootstrap - you can not recover a specific file (at least not via the client file index).

You cannot recovery just a registry key. You would need to recover the registry. And to recover the registry you would have to use NetWorker to recover the SYSTEM STATE: saveset.

So would you say that system state is more like a restore point (choose Start menu, Help and Support Center, system restore)?

Also, is there a way to automate the export of the registry on Windows? I can do it manually by choosing "Export" on the "File" drop down menu on regedit.

The recovery of the 3 system savesets would be more like a restore point. These are the SYSTEM FILES:, SYSTEM STATE:, and SYSTEM DB: savesets.

Thanks Wallace88 and 605.

I also found out that when restoring the SYSTEM STATE saveset, you have to restore back to original location or else it will fail.
