I recently installed windows 98 on a new harddrive, and after trying to install several software packages, including McAfee Virus Scan, I got an error message saying my Windows Registry was corrupted. I reinstalled Windows 98 and now when I try to install McAfee, I get a screen that says it is already installed and I can only edit the items that have been installed, or uninstall the program completely. When I click either of these, I get a screen that says the wizard encountered and error and no changes were made. I guess my main question is how can I totally reinstall the Windows Registry and start clean, and/or how can I get the McAfee Virus Scan to install new? I guess I could just reformat the hard drive, but certainlyl that would be a last resort. Thanks for the help anyone can give on this!

It depends upon which version of the product you are running, but you could go into the registry (regedit) and delete all of the keys associated with the product. For the corporate version, this will generally be under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Network Associates.

Is a link on NAI's website for their 'silent uninstall' utility, I can't stress enough, how usefull this little command line is!
It will remove registry entries etc etc.
Take a look, and Hope this helps!
