Windows Protection Error

Whenever I start up my machine running Windows ME I now get the following message "While initializing device NTKERN" Windows Protection Error.
Can anyone shed any light on A.The problem and B.The solution.
I can sometimes start up in safe mode.
Looking forward to a solution

more than likely you have some bad ram.

I have already tried changing my RAM chip with a brand new one and the same still happens.
Any other suggestions? or is my system totally screwed? If so is it going to be possible to save the data on my HDD - can I "transplant" the hard drive into another laptop, back up the data then change them back again?

Here is another link that will help you to trouble shoot the problem. Yes as Wheedoggy said the errors says RAM but it could be something else. Yes, Your HDD can be moved but I would check this out first.

Change your OS. Win ME is extremely buggy.

Try going into safe mode and removing your network settings. Or reset the register to a date before this happen. Icon58
