Greetings. I have 2 questions regarding Windows profile folder: (1) Does anybody know if there is such thing as a 'normal' Windows profile folder size for Win XP? (2) Would having a large Windows profile folder cause your Windows profile to go corrupt?

I have a Windows XP Pro computer at work. It is connected to our LAN. My current Windows profile size is 3GB. I do know that I do not have a roaming profile. I heard that that having a Windows profile bigger than 500+MB will cause the computer to run slow and can make the windows profile susceptible to corruption.

I tried to verify this on the Internet, but could not find anything referring to a 'normal' windows profile folder size. What I did find was that people was talking about having Windows profile folder size that was 10, 20, or even 30GB with appearantly no issues with their Windows.

Does anybody have any idea on this?

Thank you.

Hi. Is your profile being stored on a server within your LAN? 50 MB is normal when folder redirection is involved. Since your Desktop folder is part of your profile, it that where most of the space is being used?

No, the profile is local to the computer. When I looked at my profile, it was 3GB because my profile folder contained the Outlook archive (pst) that Outlook automatically sets up, My Documents folder, and the Temp folder under Locat Settings (looks like temp files from Photoshop Elements that did not get deleted). Thanks.

First of all: Move the My Documents folder to the root of C, something like C:\My Documents

If the computer craps out and you reinstall and enter the same username as before it will make a new profile for you and you would lose your My Documents that are inside the profile.

Secondly: Move the outlook PSTs. I dont know why people even use these things, but just move them to My Documents that is now on the C drive instead of in the profile.

Bang, 40 seconds of work and your profile is down to 20MB.
