Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to change the default Windows Print Dialog settings, where you click File>Print and you choose your printer, the Page Range, Number of Copies, etc.? Basically, I'm wanting to change the Page Range radio button from "All" to "Pages", where the end user has to enter a page range.

I've been hunting for a registry edit option, but so far have not been able to find anything and figured I'd ask the experts. This would apply to primarily WinXP, but also WinServer2003.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you will find any such way to make changes to the format of the Preference Page in the Registry, only the actual settings themselves would be manipulated via the Registry.

The actual design of visible windows goes much deeper than the Registry and would be deep inside the actual programming code of Windows.

Some third party software similar to this might work (or might not) for you to achieve anything like what I think you mean. And if I understand you fully, it is not recommended action in a production environment.

Hi Linney,

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't for sure if it was possible, but was hoping so.

A sales rep was wanting this setup for one of his customers, so that unnecessary printing could be eliminated. My thought, which would be 10x easier is to introduce account codes to print, which can be done either via software/hardware, to make end users account for what they print, thus eliminating junk prints.

Thanks again.

It sounded to me like you wanted to change the default option from 'all' to 'pages', not trying to change the design of the form which is what I think Linney thought you meant? That may be possible

My mistake, thanks Leozack for pointing it out.

I have found that some documents do not have the option for setting "Pages", everything except "All" is dimmed and not changeable. For instance Notepad wont show the option but Internet Explorer does.

So the question is, what documents are you trying to print?
