Can anyone help,

I have a Windows NT 4.0 Server PDC with Exchange Server 5.5 all fully patched. The server freezes randomally and all network and access to the console stops, the only way to resolved is power cycle the machine. Initially it was thought to be memory however after this was changed the problem occurred again.

Thanks

What events appear in event viewer, both system and application logs please?

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Could your server be overheating? System lockups are often associated with processors/motherboards getting too hot. If you're in the northern hemisphere, it is summer so that could be a reason.

Is the server in an air-conditioned/well ventilated room/rack? If not, consider moving it somewhere cooler for a while. Also, check to see if your BIOS gives you temperature details for your system.

If this is not the case, try replacing the processor to see if that is causing the problem.

Thanks for your help, it turns out that the problem was hardware based, on the processor board.
