Dear all,

I have a very strange issue: A user cannot play movies in a Window - it always goes to full screen. Whilst playback is in operation the screenmode/resolution changes to fit the size of the movie by the looks of it and it is impossible to quit out of it. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del brings up the Windows Security dialog but upon selecting taskman the screenmode goes back to what it was and taskman is not visable whlst it is playing.

Playing of all movie formats is affected and DVDs.

Does anyone have an idea of what the cause could be? It seems as if Windows has lost the ability play anything outside of fullscreen.

I have checked any fullscreen options within Media Player and tried reinstalling the grapihcs card drivers, changing screen resolution and the refesh rate, none of these has any effect.

The thread mentioned turned out to be a great help, this turned out to be an issue when the display on the laptop was on the LCD and CRT. As DirectX playback writes straight to the hardware it can only be replicated onto 1 display. Pre WMP 9 ish movies simply did not play in this scenario but an workaround is to change the screen res and output from there to the CRT.

Fix: Ensure the laptop is not displaying the video output to just 1 screen.
