Hi people,

Buying second-hand computers is not a good idea. My new problem is with Windows Media Player Series 9. My OS is XP Pro. When attempting to play/download CD's on Media Player the system recongnises the CD, downloads the track information and play's the CD but there's no sound.

Previously downloaded CD's play and I myself have downloaded CD's and played CD's previously however for some reason this does not work now.

Anyone have any idea's.

Could be that you don't have the digital rights to play your music on another PC. MS includes the ability to transfer the license in WM9 now...not that this will help u...unless u install WM9 on the old pc before you transfer your tunes.

Backups are great but checking if you can restore is more fun.

I have no idea what you mean about digital rights. All I want to do is play a CD on my computer and everything seems to work. Media player recognises the CD, downloads track info and plays it but there's no sound.

I have been playing CD's on my computer but I've also been updating driver's, deleting old/shite programs and general clean-up duties and now Media Player doesn't work right.

I was on Media Player 7 so I upgraded to 9 to see if that solved the problem but it didn't.

Thanks for the links. The first one was helpful for using WMP and solved some insignificant problems I was having but not my main one. Will look further into that thought. Cheers

Anymore help would be appreciated.

Can you clarify something for a non wmp person like me. When you mention CD is this a CD disk or is it a downloaded CD file you are playing? I guess what I am asking is what is the source of the (non)sound (on your computer, that WMP is trying to play) CD disk or sound file?

This is an old solution, but better just check anyways - is there and audio cable inside your new computer hooked up connecting the cdrom drive to the sound card?

It's a CD disk...

I believe so. However I have played CD's before so I assume mp proble is something to do with software not hardware.

Check that you have enabled Digital Audio.

In Control Panel go to System -Hardware - Device Manager. Double-click on "DVD/CD ROM Drives" and right click on the drive that you want to use and click "properties" on the drop-down menu.

Go to the "Properties" tab and check the box "Enable digital cd audio for this device" and press "ok"

Thank-you very much. So simple. I just wish new how the box became unchecked.

Once again Cheers
