WMP says "the specified stream type is not recognised" when I click on the link to my video file. The file is in a DW folder called Video, and is a .wmv format. I get the same message when trying to open it in Explorer or Safari. Once WMP is open (and displaying the warning), I can go to the File menu and Open Recent... and click on the file name. It opens (in the larger window) and plays fine. Why won't it do this directly from the page link? Should I take up organic farming instead?

Can you paste your code? My guess is the path to the file is incorrect.

Thanks again, Dodge. Code follows:

<body>
<table width="800" height="600" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" background="../images/Thames-on-blue%20copy.jpg" id="LR general">
<tr>
<th width="121" rowspan="2" align="left" scope="col"><img src="../images/LRsidebarblue.jpg" width="54" height="586" /></th>
<th width="215" height="100" valign="bottom" scope="col"><div align="left" class="subheads">Progress
album<br />
<span class="style8"><span class="style12">(click on image for enlarged
version) </span></span> </div></th>
<th width="269" align="left" valign="bottom" scope="col"><p><span class="subheads"><a href="../video/GUJO.wmv">Video
walk-through</a> <a href="../video/GUJO.wmv"><br />
</a><span class="style8"><span class="style12">(click here)</span></span></span></p>

Your GUJO.wmv is uploaded to your video directory correct? The name is correct? Parent paths are enabled on your server?

Also could the path just be /video/GUJO.wmv
without the ..
Can you live me a little information about your directory structure such as what directory this page is located relative to the video directory.

Well, I've now published the site ( and the video seems to run ok on the web, if not on my hard drive. I think the problem may have been, not the path, but the 35Mb size of the video (not my doing!). Some time soon I'll edit it down to smaller window size and higher compression.
Anyway, final thanks for help in getting my first site up and running!
