Hi Guys,
I'm running Win XP Pro with all the lateste patches and Windows Media Player 9. While browsing the Internet suing IE 6 and then clicking on a link to an mpeg video file, WMP opens up and then crashes. If I download the video using "save target as" and then play it it plays fine. It used to work correctly up until a week ago but I can't think of anything I've done that would have affected it. I tried reinstalling the player but that doesn't work. Specifically the error message states" Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close"
The next window for more info on the error says
"Error Signature
AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVersion 9.0.0.280 ModName:mpegin.dll
MOdVer: 1.1.1.124 Offset: 000150e1
blablabla
"

Any ideas????

Thanks
Seb

In adddition I've found out that this only happens with links to files that have the .mpg extension. Shortcuts to WMV files play fine. I noticed also that the error message says something about mpegin.dll.

Ok,
I think I figured it out. This error has something to do with the Main Concept Decoder that comes bundled with Adobe Premiere Pro. I just went to Add/Remove programs and then chose repair option during the Premiere uninstall. That basically fixed the problem. I believe that the problem may have occured when I recently installed Adobe Encore DVD.

Thanks

If you rename the file mpegin.dll, the problem goes away - I want to continue to use both media player and main concept, however. Does anyone have a proper fix?
