On starting up Windows ME on my computer I get the error message "Osa9 has caused an error in KERNEL 32.DLL. Osa9 will now close". I click on the close button and carry on as normal using my computer. I have not yet noticed anything refusing to work. On shutdown, I get the error message "Taskmon has caused an error in KERNEL 32.DLL. Taskmon will now close". Does anyone know how to get rid of these errors and what is causing them.

That links messed up here so just copy and paste the full link into your address bar and press enter. This is what it says:

When you attempt to start or shut down Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or to start Windows Explorer, you may receive one of the following error messages:

TASKMON caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if log files in the Windows\Applog folder are damaged. When you shut down Windows 98 or Windows Me, the Task Monitor tool attempts to update these log files. When it cannot do so, the error message occurs.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

Double-click My Computer on the desktop.

Double-click the drive that contains the Windows folder.

On the View menu, click Folder Options.

Click the View tab. Under the Hidden Files section, click Show All Files. Click OK

Double-click the Windows folder.

Right-click the Applog folder, click Rename, type a new name for the folder (such as Applog2), and then press ENTER.

Restart your computer. The Applog folder and log files are re-created automatically.

By the way, after restarting I suppose you can delete the renamed folder.

Or you could just uncheck Task Monitor in msconfig under the startup tab. It's really not needed. I have mine unchecked. But if you do that then open disk defragmenter and click the settings button on the first screen and uncheck "rearrange files so programs start faster" and then exit out. You want that unchecked when running defrag if you've unchecked Task Monitor in msconfig.

Kento's right, you don't need task monitor.

I believe Osa.exe is the Office Start entry in the Start>Programs>Startup folder.

Delete the shortcut from there.

Also kill the Find Fast Indexer if you have that installed.

In Internet Explorer, go to Help>Online Support, choose the Microsoft Knowledge Base, then check the box that says specify an article ID number, then paste Q158705 into the search box. I'ts titled " How to Disable the Find Fast Indexer"

Thanks a million. I followed your instructions for the Applog file and it has removed both error messages for me. Much appreciated. I wonder if you can solve another one I have recently got. When surfing the Web I sometimes get an error come up "Iexplore error" it says Iexplore has caused an error in WININET.DLL. Can you work your magic on that one as well. Thanks.
