Windows ME & IE 6.0

Two messages have appeared on a friends machine. They have ME (YUK) and have recently installed IE6. The machine is experiencing problems with IE and Outlook. Each time mail access is attempted one of two errors occurs.

MSIMN caused an ERROR

or

Iexplorer as caused an eror in COMCTL32.DLL

Any suggestions to the fix, would be greatly appreciated.

Did they install Service Pack 6?

Service Pack 6; for IE or ME?
I didn't know either of the two existed.
I doubt any additional service packs have been installed. Please let me know which one I should try and where the pack can be downloaded.

Sorry, I made a mistake...it was service pack 4 for IE 5.5 which I'm sure you know about.

Just a thought. Outlook Express 5 had a similar problem on W98 when using filtering on the Inbox. Outlook Express crashed (MSIMN if I remember correctly) whenever mail was being retrieved. If filtering in on, try turning it off and see what happens. The trick is to correct this in offline mode if the problem is occuring at mail download.

Have you tried a "repair" on IE 6.0? Maybe they didn't get a good install......... I could be wrong, so don't hold that against me. At least I'm trying! I hope I've helped in some way........
