Hello All,

Newby to the world of graphic arts. Like to learn new things so I am using the "Dummies Series" to become self-taught.

Since I am a business man by day, I am using a PC. I have Adobe Illustrator 10.0 and QuarkXPress 5.0. I have used Illustrator to create and save images in both .ai and .eps format. When I use Quark to "Get Picture" I am receiving a low resolution image. If I use Quark to grab a photo from a digial camera it appears fine. HELP!!!!

How do I get my creations from Illustrator into QuarkXpress in a printable high resolution format???

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I should add, I do not have a postscript printer at home. I brought the Quark file to work where we have a Xerox center with such printers and they were only able to print a low resolution result. They mentioned something about linking the files. Is it possible to do the work and home and bring the file to work to be printed? Rather than using "Get Picture" in Quark to bring in my Illustrator work do I need to link them somehow?

Thanks again!

You need two things here to get some results:

1: A PostScript printer (or a software RIP that essentially processes PostScript files for a non-postscript printer).

2: A copy of all imported images somewhere that Quark can find them.

In other words, when you bring your Quark document into work, you should also bring your Illustrator EPS files too. Go to Utilities > Usage... and check to see if your pictures are tagged as OK, Modified or Missing. If it's missing, select it and click 'Update'. From the resulting dialog box, you will need to find the original EPS files. For Modified, again click Update, then OK.

Once Quark can find all your pictures, it should print fine on a postscript printer.

My dear,
its just the view file that quark creates and it is lo res. so do not worry when you see a lo res. pic. in your document in quark. when you will print the same it will be hi res. provided you have a hi res. image created in illustrator. Use illustrator eps of atleast 300 dpi and do not worry what you see on screen but it will print all right. intentionally it is done to keep pics. in lo res in quark just to make application fast.
