windows keeps rebooting every time i try and shut down anyone any ideas i am sure i have heard of this problem before. win98se

Is it rebooting, or hung up on close? The latter has a host of reasons why it could happen. There are many article on tech-net about a laundry list of fixes. JerseyBoy

How old is the computer? If it is old, it may not support the automatic shutdown feature in Win98. I have had this problem when upgrading some Win95 machine to Win98.

Hello Putbinoot:

If you go to Run>msconfig>Advanced, is "Disable fast shutdown" checked? If it is not, you may get the reboot problem.

You can try disabling the Advanced power management compatibility driver under Control Panel, System, Device manager, System Devices.

Some BIOS cause this effect while shutting down Win98se.

I hope this works.
