After years of working fine, I have a situation suddenly appearing whereby when I start up my VB6 project, the Windows Installer starts up and tries to install one of my apps. I click cancel but it happens many times during the loading of the project and also when I run the project in the VB environment. It seems that something is tangled up.

Does any have any advice on this annoyance? How can I stop this from happening?

Thanks, David Abineri

This has happened to me - I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it but here is what I remember.

You need to open up the registry - go to
Local machine / Software / Microsoft / (Visual basic)<<it will probly be something like vb6 look through the keys for a value that includes msi make sure you backup the value first - then delete it and open vb

this is how I solved the problem when this happened to me
sorry these aren't exact instructions I'm not @ comp with vb - and my memory is fuzzy anyway

hope this helps

Thanks for this hint. I have not edited the registry before. I have backup up the system. Where do I find the msi reference? I find VB on the left part of the window. What are the KEYS, the strings that look like some sort of codes on the left?

If you get a chance, please write back, I really need to fix this. I uninstalled and reinstalled VB and this had NO effect on the problem.

Thanks for your time.

I've also seen something similar happen before. Whenever starting a miscellaneous application, Windows Installer would bring up an 'Installing MS Office' dialog.

Turned out that there was an .msi installation that was either cancelled or incomplete, leaving some garbage in the Registry. We fixed it by downloading and installing the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

:) I've experienced this problem...I just put in the darn install CD and let it do what ever it's trying to do so I can get back on with my life!

...Windows. <sigh> ;)

SleepDepD, Which CD? Windows? VB?

Thanks, David Abineri

Oh...sorry. The Office install CD--that's the installer dialog that's popping up, right?

Once I get off wrk - I'll post more specific instructions - Unless your problem has been solved
(I would of yest but once I got home I pastout on the bed)
