I've read and re read several posts that have had the same or a similar problem but I can't find an answer.
Out of the blue, a few days ago, each time I double click a folder, in either Windows Explorer or Opus Explorer or even on the desk top, I get a window headed "Windows Installer" and a message "Preparing to install...."
It never says what it's trying to install and Task Manager has no entry.
It does this 4 times and then opens the folder I have asked for.
I have run RegCure and AVG.

Have you tried these sort of things?

Had the same problem. I used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and cleaned everything. Unfortunately, I had to reinstall MicroSoft Office. Thanks linney for the link to the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
