Hi all,

We are experiencing this issue, however not too critical it is still annoying. Some users, all on the domain, are having an issue when rebooting their desktop icons are set back to default and their taskbar(s) are set back to default. It is only maybe 10 out of 2500 users on the domain. They are Dell D series laptops, 600-620 and 800-820. This happens docked or undocked. I have done searches to no avail. Any Ideas?

Roaming or local profiles? If roaming I imagine something is stopping their roaming profile being updated, probably security. If local you probably also have a security issue.

Check the event logs for clues

Check 'effective' permissions for the folder where their profiles are stored.

It is a local profile. Event log shows nothing uncommon. His rights are good. He is admin and admin to all of his profile folders.

I created a profile for myself on the machine, I do not have this problem.

I recreated his profile, he still gets the problem though. I recreated it manually, pretty much I just saved his drive mapps, favorites etc and deleted his profile. Still does this issue though.

No, Event log is normall, it shows nothing uncommon.

Hmmmm - starting to run out of options here.

Check those users don't have a mandatory profile set.

Check those users user.dat file had the correct permissions.

Check effective permissions as well as NTFS permissions.

Check those users have a valid path to store their roaming profile, even if they are using a local profile.

See if these similar type threads offer any clues?
