Windows hangs cold on the logo screen. I would like to shut down the startup processes (as was possible in W98) but I can't figure out the msconfig equivalent. Also, I can't detect in the bootlog which process was the last one before the block.

Is there a way in 2K to start selecting what is loaded?
To see what has been loaded or was being loaded at the point it hangs?
To turn off the splash screen?

The program starts slowly but it sarts in safe mode. I suspect a mouse driver issue (loaded then removed an infared usb mouse correctly recently. I did a hard boot after the mouse froze during a fairly gdi intensive operation)

This happened after Windows had been running successfully for several months. I booted twice to a blue message screen, which I expected to see the third time. Unfortunately, the screen no longer appears, and I didn't get the details.

I am going to try starting from the windows disk, but if I can't, any information would be appreciated.

Marvelous tip. Thank you. While W2K is a vast improvement over 98, MSConfig is a loss. Being a gizmo junkie, it's mine.

I resolved the issue by simply unplugging the USB hub with the infrared receiver. I'd still like to know, if anyone has an idea, how to determine which programs are started and which hang during windows startup.
