Using Windows 7 Ultimate I have a problem whenever I right click one of the desktop icons. Instead of the usual context window appearing I get one that tells me that windows explorer has stopped working with a button to restart the program. This happens every time I right click any icon on the desktop. Windows Explorer stops working and I have to restart it. I've used Malwarebytes and other such programs to seek a culprit but have found nothing. This is most annoying and any information that could lead to solving this problem will be appreciated.

Thanks to the advice you offered the problem is no longer evident. I acquired ShellExView and used it to disable half of the long list of non Microsoft items. A right click on a desktop shortcut icon brought up the context menu. I knew the culprit to be in this group somewhere and by a process of elimination I narrowed it down to a single item (FastPreview ShellExt Server). Then to verify that this one item was the offender I enabled it also. To my surprise the context menus appeared. I checked the list again and everything was enabled and the problem appears to have been solved by the process of turning it off and then on again. Beats hell out of me why, but I'm glad to see things working normally again. Thanks again, I'm truly grateful.

I was mistaken in the previous post when I stated that the problem had been resolved. After checking several times, the context window appeared even though the offending entry had been re-enabled so I surmised that all was well even though I didn't know why. However, when I clicked a desktop shortcut icon after submitting the post the problem again presented itself. I solved it by uninstalling the program causing the trouble and now the issue is truly resolved. However, I never would have found it were it not for ShellExView that you both recommended. Many thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback, I hope the problem stays fixed for you.
