When I am in windows explorer, and I want to search for a file or folder, I press the search button on the toolbar and nothing happens, help please????
This is a small but very annoying problem.
Thank you in advance.
Open Explorer and go to the Windows\Inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install. You'll need your XP CD or the files from the I386 folder.
The Windows\Inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf to open directly to the Inf folder.
See the following KB article for more information:
You may also want to check out a program called "BHOcop" to check out any Browser Helper Objects that could becausing this problem.
What are BHOs? BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) are code modules adding functionality to Internet Explorer. They could be named plugins or addins but since they actually are COM (ActiveX) objects, they were named BHOs. A BHO allows developers to customize and control Internet Explorer and have unlimited capabilities. BHOs have access to all the events and properties of an Internet Explorer browsing session. BHOs don't necessarily have a user interface and therefore, you may not be aware of some BHOs installed on your system without your agreement.
