I am running Windows 98SE. Several weeks ago my settings changed and I have not been able to restore them.

Folders Window Disappears
When I open Explorer the Folders view is in the left window. When I select a folder in the left window, the contents of the folder are displayed in the right window, but the left hand folders window disappears. If I go to View - Explorer Bar and select Folders the left hand window is restored, but goes away again when I select another folder.

Details View Won't Stay
When I open Windows Explorer, the right hand window is in Large Icons mode. I can select Details and it will change to details, but reverts back to large icons when I open another folder.

How can I make these two settings permanent?

Thanks in advance,
George

Try going to View>Folder Options. From there, click on the View tab and then click the button labeled "Restore Defaults". Then click APPLY and then OK. Change your view to DETAILS. Go back to View>Folder Options and click on the VIEW tab again. This time click on the button that says "Like Current Folder". That should work for you, but please post back if it doesn't. Enkrypted

Thanks for your response. That fixed the "Details" problem.

I still can't get the left hand Folders window to stay put. It closes every time I open a folder. I can re-open it from the View - Explorer Bar menu, but it closes the next time I open a folder. Any ideas on that one?

Try going to View and make sure "as Web Page" checked. The from there, go back into View>Folder Options and click on the VIEW tab again. Click on the button that says "Like Current Folder" and then check to see if it holds that setting. Enkrypted
