I am using Windows 7 home 64 bit and running IE 9. I am currently getting an error message "windows could not create the shortcut. Check to see if the disk is full" when ever I try to make a shortcut to the desktop. I open up IE9 and then right click on one of my websites listed in Favourites. I then try to send the shortcut to the desktop when the error appears. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Much appreciated. Debbie

Neither can I, nor probably anyone else can do what you want. Try creating the Desktop Icon from the files in this location -

C:\Users\usernamexxxx\Favorites

How do you "try to send the shortcut to the desktop"?

If you are trying to add a Favorite to your desktop, you can use Linney's method, or you can do a right-click drag of the favorite to the desktop, and when you release the mouse, select "copy". If this is what you are doing and you still get the error, can you create anything on the desktop? You may have a permissions problem.

A left click and drag, with no need to copy, will work too. If you right click and select "send to desktop" it will not work.

Hope this helps.

cmeagan656: Ahh now I see... I was right-clicking the favorite from the yellow star and did not see a "Send to" option... Now I see if you go to the Favorites menu and right-click, you DO get the option to "Send To... Desktop (Create shortcut)", and I can duplicate the behavior the OP described. Oversight on Microsoft's part??

guitarzan: Likely. It happens with IE 8 too. It does not happen with files that I want to send to the desktop from Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps.
